Vegetative Patients

One of the things I’m most scared of is a family member or loved one of mine being in a coma.  My heart goes out to people that have to endure these, what in my opinion, have to be the WORST thing ever to endure.  Who wants to have to play GOD with the life of someone?

I’m so undecided on the pulling the plug thing.  I feel that we can/will never know if the person will wake up out of the coma.  There are cases where people have awaken 10 and 15 years later.  What if their family had pulled the plug?  Then there are cases where people haven’t waken up after 10 and 15 years.  Should they continue to let their loved one suffer (can it be called suffering) and prolong the pain of the family?

Doctors “claim” they can tell if a person has brain activity, etc. and they use these diagnoses when advising families on what to do, but what about the baby born without a brain that’s lived over a year and they said he wouldn’t last a couple of days?

Now there’s been a study that shows there are “traces” of thought in vegetative patients.  Honestly how could they think that they had no brain activity at all?  Can’t you tell in conflicted, but if you want to check out the story, CLICK HERE.

    Hey KIM!

I had to go through this last May when my Aunt had an anuersym(sp). It was devestating, especially since she slipped into the “vegetative” state so soon afterwards. They ran every test they could think of and everything all came back the same, no brain activity.

It hurts to have a loved one in that state and it hurts worse when there is nothing you can do about it. I’m still not over it because there will always be that thought (rational, or not) of whether we should have left her on it longer.

Girl this pic has struck a nerve with me, but it is a sad truth that so many of us out here has had to deal with. Thanks for putting the issue out here.

    :)
